Dr. Jerry Rasmussen
Superintendent

Our 27th year as a district promises to be a year unlike any other.  Every year presents challenges and change; we will continue to adapt and improve, as we have every year.  I am more excited to see our students return this August than I have been any other of my previous 34 years.  We ended our school year abruptly last March; I’ve dearly missed the smiles and laughter of our students for six months.  I am so excited for August 13th!!

Change Is An Opportunity To Do Something Amazing.  George Couros made that statement and I’m asking our staff and community to always embrace change as an opportunity and a worthy challenge.  Purposeful change continues our constant drive focus on improvement.

For our new students and families, I would like to extend a warm welcome on behalf of our Board of Education, staff, and community.  I am truly honored and privileged to be a part of our team here and trust that you will find a warm, welcoming school and community. Many of our students have moved here at some point and we focus on our students being part of an inclusive community of learners.  My experience has been that you will find we have committed, caring staff who strive to appropriately challenge each of our students in a caring, nurturing environment.

In 1994, we started with 621 students.  We expect over 1380 students this fall. (122% growth since 1994)   During our 27 years, Dakota Valley has become known for our students’ academic achievement and the educational programs that we offer.  Our fine arts and athletic teams are highly successful, consistently experiencing success at regional and state events.  Student success isn’t a tradition at Dakota Valley; it’s an expectation.  We are extremely pleased with our students’ academic achievements, which are consistently above the local, state, and national averages.  We are eager to continue our partnership our parents and community as we strive to provide opportunities for the continued success of our students.  One of our expectations is for our staff to establish and build relationships with each of our students and families to foster the development of both strong students and quality citizens.

Our award-winning facilities and commitment to technology provide many exciting opportunities for our students and staff.  Our staff are life-long learners and continue to further their instructional abilities.  Our community and school board share a commitment to provide a first-class education and facilities for our students.

The foundation of every effective school is the partnerships between the school, parents, and community.  We firmly believe that with your support, we will continue to see our students experience high levels of success and be prepared for their futures.  Not all students have the same hopes and dreams and we are proud to provide a variety of pathways to successful careers and educational opportunities for our students.

On behalf of our outstanding staff, dedicated Board of Education, and most importantly our truly amazing students, I sincerely thank you for your support of our schools and students.
